Fuji Astia 100F

A user from a forum I frequent has recommended a film with some rather stern words so I did a bit of research on it and liked what I found. It's Fuji Astia 100F and from what I've read and seen it is a brilliant film with exceptional fine grain and a great range of detail in lights and darks. The granularity is rated at RMS 7 which is extremely fine.

Check out a review with samples here and a datasheet (warning pdf link) here.

I've purchased 5 rolls of 120 and plan to use some on this project. First though I'd like to find a lab that will hopefully donate some development for the slide as it can get rather costly and I'd rather spend the money on donations.

@Go India: On the subject of attitudes, you know what sort of attitude I hate?

Yours.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with George's idea of getting sponsored by a lab, regardless of whether he's using this project to improve his photography or not. God forbid people actually get together and do something positive and generous and contribute to the greater good, rather than sitting around bitching and moaning all the time.

Realistically, it's not going to cost the lab all that much to run a roll or so a week through for free. And as for your use of rather strong terms like "coerced" and "scheme": if the lab guy wants to help George out, he will.

I'd hate to imagine what the world would be like if there were more people like you and less like George...

By partnering with a lab I

By partnering with a lab I will be able to increase the donations. I don't see that as a bad thing and I can't imagine you do as well. Besides, I shoot mostly b&w and develop at home so this is a non issue.

I make no secret of the fact that I'm doing this to improve my photography as well as raising money for what I believe to be a worthy cause. I'm sorry you think I have an el cheapo attitude and despite my bad Aussie mentality I hope you come back to check on the progress of this project in the future.

You want a lab to donate the processing because you are doing this for charity??!!
What an el cheapo attitude. I hate this Aussie mentality where someone thinks because they are giving to charity it makes them some holy being. Let's face it - you are doing this project to improve your photography, so pay the lab for processing like the rest of us. If the lab guy feels like giving to a charity he can do it himself, he doesn't need to be coerced into your scheme.

Hmm, i've heard good things

Hmm, i've heard good things about Astia too. I almost bought some the other day, but will see how you go with it first.
I look forward to the results.
